BRISKET SALE !

Troop 157 is having it's annual Brisket Sale, beginning right away.  Briskets are 10-12 lbs uncooked then they are hand rubbed with selected seasoning, and smoked all night by the parents of Troop 157.  All briskets must be picked up in the back parking lot of the First United Methodist Church, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 6, 2007.  When you have your "Purchaser" pick up their briskets, remind them that they are hot and juicy, so please bring something appropriate to carry then in.  All briskets must be paid for in advance.  Checks can be made out to BSA Troop 157.

Let's go out there and sell for our troop.  The monies we receive as profit goes to the many expenses that it takes to make a very successful program for our youth.  We will be needing adults to work a shift to prepare these for our customers.  Also we request a youth from each patrol on Saturday morning to hand out briskets and help clean up the churches parking lot.

POPCORN - What’s your flavor???

  • The Take Order Popcorn Fundraiser begins Saturday, Sep 29th thru Monday Oct 22nd
  • Order sheets will be available at the troop meeting on September 24th
  • Wear your uniform and sell Popcorn via an order sheet. (Dress for success!)
  • Introduce yourself and explain why you are selling popcorn.

Why are you selling popcorn you ask?

To support your troop, your council and also to earn commission for yourself to pay for your scouting expenses.

  • Give good reasons to buy popcorn

Make great gifts for family, teachers, postal workers, neighbors…etc.
For people who don’t like popcorn- suggest that they make a donation to put towards popcorn for the troops.

We will join BSA troops from all over this area and buy cans of caramel corn to give to soldiers from Ft. Hood departing for Iraq. Last year over 18,000 cans were purchased for the troops from donations collected during this fundraiser.

Important to note: Many of you have probably seen recent stories in the national media about a chemical used to give microwave popcorn its buttery flavor. The chemical is called diacetyl and has reportedly been linked to a debilitating lung disease. You will be happy to know that Trail's End microwave popcorn was the first to be produced with no diacetyl added. So, you can sell our popcorn with pride!

  • Parents- show your support for this fundraiser by going to sell popcorn with your scout.
They will sell a lot more and will earn a much bigger commission! (I say this from experience!)
  • Additional order sheets available at the troop meetings.
  • Collect all payments for popcorn ordered when taking the order.
  • Turn in the Order forms and all funds collected to Cyndi Harbison at the troop meeting on the night of October 22nd.
  • Popcorn will be available for pick up by the scouts at my home on November 10th or at the Troop meeting on November 12th.
  • Deliver popcorn straight to your customers after you pick it up from Cyndi Harbison.

Incentives and Goals:

Your Troop needs every one of our scouts to sell at least $200. worth of Popcorn this year. Because we need you to do this, we have the perfect incentive for you to do it!

Do we have any expert pie throwers out there????

Mr. Edmiston and Mr. Faver have agreed to let any scout who sells at least $200 worth of popcorn during this fundraiser can have their choice to throw a pie of whipped cream at either of them in the church parking lot on a date to be specified later. Surely none of our scouts are going to let this opportunity go by! Right????

BUT…that’s not all! Each scout has the potential to earn the following commission percentages from your popcorn sales:

  • The scout and the troop split the commission equally 50/50 on the first $250 of individual sales.
  • For sales between $250 and $500 the scout retains 75% of the commission on the portion above $250.
  • For sales over $500, the scout receives 100% of the troop commission for the portion above $500.
  • What is the “troop’s commission?” 35%. Every $100 in sales by the troop yields $35 in commissions.

My computer rounded up some of the column 2 commissions to the next dollar but the $ retained by the scout and the troop in columns #3 and #4 is correct.

Troop 157 Popcorn Sales 2007

Expected troop commission from Council is 35% of Raw Sales
If a scout sells: Commission His share Troop share
$200 $70 $35 $35
$250 $88 $43.75 $43.75
$300 $105 $56.88 $48.12
$350 $123 $70.00 $52.50
$400 $140 $83.13 $56.87
$450 $158 $96.27 $61.23
$500 $175 $109.38 $65.62
$550 $193 $126.88 $65.62
$600 $210 $144.38 $65.62
$650 $228 $161.88 $65.62
$700 $245 $180.38 $65.62
$750 $262.50 $196.88 $65.62
$800 $280 $214.38 $65.62

Example: If you sell 10 cans of the large 26oz. caramel corn and 7 boxes of the microwave popcorn @ $15 each…you will sell $255.00 worth of popcorn. The commission you would make on those sales is $43.75 for the first $250.00 worth of popcorn you sold plus $1.31 for the remaining $5.00 worth of popcorn you sold for a grand total of $45.06 in commissions for your scout account. Of course, you can make much more than that, when you sell MORE POPCORN! Regardless, $43.06 is not a shabby commission and could be used to pay for a decent chunk of your Summer Camp Fees, which make MOM and Dad happy campers too!

WHAT can you spend your commissions on you ask?

Troop commissions will be put into your troop scout account and can be used to reimburse you for scouting supplies you purchase for things like tents, sleeping bags, trunks, hiking boots…etc. You can also use your scout account money to put toward scout trips like summer and winter camps, high adventure camps...etc.

How can you sell that much popcorn you ask? It’s easy!
